Carla Mintz Blackshear

MISSION

I have been a registered nurse for 30(+) years. Over these years, I have combined my love of nursing with a passion for cooking. I have also made it my mission to help others live longer and healthier lives.

PERSONAL STORY

Coming from a family history of diabetes and hypertension, I knew the importance of eating healthy, well-balanced meals and physical activity. On the contrary, I remember the years as a single mother, working two jobs, juggling homework, and year round sport activities. I sometimes relied on fast food, pre-packaged foods or dining out because it was convenient.

In 2001, I began to focus more on my personal health and began bringing my lunches and snacks to work every day. Later, I began preparing healthy light meals and snacks for the other nurses. It was a challenge balancing twelve hour work shifts, family, and day to day activities. Ultimately, I knew what I wanted to do.

After several years as a national travel nurse, I returned to Atlanta, GA in June 2007 and obtained a business license as a Personal Chef. Always striving to make a difference and help others live healthier lives, I decided to cater my business to anyone who was too busy to prepare healthy, nutritious meals that met their dietary needs. I also began to cater private events. Completely self-taught, I dream of one day attending an accredited culinary program. I bring to your table 10 years of cooking experience. My goal is to provide great tasting, health conscious and unique foods that render ultimate enjoyment.

VISION FOR WELLNESS

In 2011, I read a startling report from the CDC on obesity and the high incidence of failed attempts for many individuals who strive to eat healthy, and engage in some kind of physical activity. I had a revelation and decided to take my business, my vision, and my mission to a new level and became a Certified Wellness Coach.

I have a personal and professional commitment to help people circumvent heart disease and other chronic ailments. I conduct one-on-one sessions during which time clients set achievable goals toward improving their overall health and well-being through lifestyle improvements or changes. I assist my clients in understanding that wellness and good health has more to do with attitude, adaptations, acceptance and overall lifestyles.

EDUCATION

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Pennsylvania State University. I continue on-going Personal Chef training through various schools including Hal’s Kitchen and Viking Cooking School. I mentor with several Professional Chefs and I plan to pursue a Personal Chef Certification in the near future. I received a Wellness Coach Certification through Spencer Institute/Nesta. I hold a ServSafe Certification through the National Restaurant Association.
